Praise the Lord: Our Car

Thank you for your prayers. Praise the Lord for his provision.  We finally found a car.  At the last miniute that Lord provided $3000 extra.  The car had one owner and runs very well. 

 

A Bible Study Begins

On Saturday, September 15, we will begin a Bible Study with Douglas and Ketty.  They are brother and sister.   They live on the North Side of the city.  Please be praying for a great start in laying the foundation of Jesus Christ.  We want to begin right, build right, and of course end right – that we know is all about Jesus Christ and not us (1 Cor. 1-4). Continue to pray for Hope Baptist Church.

A Holiday Week

This week, Brazil is celebrating its independence from Portugal (September 7, 1822).  Classes are suspended at the Seminary and things like buying a car and looking for a location for a new church pretty much go on hold.  It has not stopped our prayers though.  On Tuesday we had dinner with Douglas and Kathy.  They are both elementary teachers in training.  Kathy is already teaching in the Brazilian school system.  They both would like to have a Bible study in their home with their entire family.  Yesterday we had lunch with Dr Jerry a Brazilian dental surgeon who lives right next to the building we would like to rent for the Hope Baptist Church.  We met him when the team from HBC was here.  He heard their English and had to ask who we were.  Pastor Recker specifically asked Dr. Jerry if he would help us in our church plant.  This man is a believer that has been looking for a church.  Already he has been a huge encouragement to us.  He speaks fluent English and lived in the USA for 15 years.  The Lord is already sending us encouraging contacts along the way.  Continue to pray for our building search and more importantly, the search for lost souls on the North Side.  We know well that the church is not a building but the body of Christ.

The Search for a Meeting Place

The north side of our city is the “magnet” of Porto Alegre as Manhattan is to NYC.  Our target location is right on what is called the “third bypass”, a road that accesses over 20 booming burros (You can go to google maps and type in Carlos Gomes, Porto Alegre).  We are trying to find a place on the 3rd bypass that passes through the burros of Higienopolis, Boa Vista, Tres Figueiras, or Petropolis.  At this location we will have access to all of the north side and the downtown area.  We have inquired on several locations but the rent was outrageous, $3-4000 a month.  We have found one store front beautifully located on the 3rd bypass in the burro of Higienopolis.  They are asking almost $1000 a month, a little steep but the lowest we have seen so far.   This would be a perfect location in “our estimation” (Proverbs 3:5-6) but we will be praying and waiting on the Lord.  We ask you to pray with us specifically.  We will be meeting with the realtor about the location next week.
