Today in Porto Alegre – 30,000 Spiritist Centers

18 11 2007

Today, Sunday November 18th, is a rainy day.  This morning we are going again to the North Side to pray.   On Sunday mornings we have been venturing into the city to ask God to prepare the way for the gospel as well as give us a meeting place for the Hope Baptist Church.  We bring an audio sermon and pray in great hopes of one day there being a preaching point where others can hear the Word as well.

We read an amazing statistic this past week that in our city of 4.5 million  (greater metropolitan area) there are over 30,000 Spiritist’ centers (read about Spiritism at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spiritism).  There are very few churches that preach the glory of Christ and true biblical conversion from sin to the Savior.  Our prayer is that the “people who set in darkness” will see the glorious light of the Gospel. Pray with us today!

Great Weekend Couples Retreat

6 11 2007

Thank you for praying for the couples retreat this past weekend.  There were sixteen brazilain couples that participated in the three day getaway in the mountain town of Nova Petropolis. God did a great work among us through His Word.  There was a testimony time at the end and it was touching to see the tears of broken hearts and to hear what God was doing. We pray that the decisions made will continue and that these couples will glorify God in their marriages.  Patty and I were refreshed and encouraged by this weekend getaway and are very thankful to Pastor Humberto and the precious folks of Maranatha Baptist Church for inviting us to speak. (You will notice from the picture that most of these folks are of German decent. Many of them are third generation immigrants. There was also a couple from Uruguay. Yes, we have coats on because it was pretty chilly in the mountains.  The food was incredible – colored with both German and Italian cuisine).
