The 4 Laws of Hope Baptist Church

9 11 2008

We have adopted these familiar but transforming principles for the life of our church.  They will give us Hope in life and in death.

  1. God’s love for me never changes (I John 4:10).
  2. God’s will for me is Christlikeness (Romans 8:28-29).
  3. God’s Word for me has the true and final answer (Hebrews 4:12).
  4. God’s Grace is sufficient for me (2 Corinthians 12:9-10).

Tentmaking Opportunity with the Hutchins’ in Porto Alegre

9 11 2008
Are you up for a “tentmaking” adventure? In Acts 20:34 Paul said, “You yourselves know that these hands ministered to my own needs and to the men who were with me”. Paul mended tents during the week and preached the gospel all along the way. Maybe you don’t know anything about tents but you have another ability God could use.

Patty is working with a local international school that is seeking teachers in several areas (K-12). The school provides average pay, housing, and many other benefits.  Check out the employment page at http://www.panamerican.com.br/employment.html

We are praying that God would send dedicated evangelists to our city that desire to make a difference in the world through the Gospel.  If you are single or even a married couple and are interested, we can give you more information.  You would be a great asset to our ministry and to the city of Porto Alegre either temporarily or permanently. Pray about this opportunity. The fields are white already unto harvest, but the laborers are few!
The school is located in this area and our apartment is very close.

Hope Baptist Church – www.ibepoa.com

We continue with meetings every Sunday morning at 10am in our apartment.  Our people are doing well and being faithful. Next Sunday our group will be taking its first missions trip to another church that we would like to help in the future.  The church is where we worked during our first term.  Pastor Zenildo has been faithful and is in great need of more support.  We hope to take him on as a church when we ourselves get established. The people are exciting about going. We hope it will be a blessing to them.

We had a great meeting on October 9.  We met at a pizza restaurant and had a great time talking with several new folks who visited our meeting.  We meet again on November 15.  We will be going to a local coffee shop that overlooks the city. We are expecting good numbers as each time it has grown.

Working in the community: English Classes

As the dollar fell this past year we had to consider some way to supplement our income.  We found that there is a great demand for one-on-one conversation classes with business men and women.  Patty also found a job at a local children’s school until December.  After this, she will be teaching at an international school right next to our apartment.  She has been hired to teach second grade.  What started out as a need for monies to pay our bills has turned into a huge door of opportunity.  We have gained a new respect from our people as well as we too are working with them in the community.  We know that in the future as the church grows we will need to cut back on these opportunities.  Pray for the over 40 people we rub shoulders with on a weekly basis.  It’s been a huge blessing as we have also made some great friends among these people.
